Hola, people I am a Maliswali residing in NJ. Postpartum
Massage Therapy is actaully practiced by Indian women, more often than not a village elder.
Postnatal Massage techniques were handed down by Great-Aunts and the like,
and the benefits of Postpartum Massage Therapy
were well-known for aeons. These wise helpers knew about herbal treatments.
The person who just gave birth was helped in getting back
to normal, and this massage practitioner was known as
a Maliswali, or "Massage Guardian." The newborn and mother both receive a massage session. The traditions go back thousands
of years, however in actuality Indian civilization goes back even before the date historians agree upon as
the start of life that would be recognizable to a modern person. I am
known as Darika, which means maiden.
